Bull Lion Winery and Landon Winery offer new Grapevine wine experiences
GRAPEVINE, TEXAS – (September 18, 2020) – As the epicenter of Texas wine culture, Grapevine is proud to welcome Bull Lion Winery and Landon Winery as the latest winery tasting rooms to join the Grapevine Urban Wine Trail.
With Texas as the fifth largest wine-producing state in the U.S., Grapevine is home to the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association and hosts more than a dozen renowned wine related events annually, such as New Vintage Wine and Gallery Trail & Blessing of the Vines, Jazz Wine Trains, and Texas’ quintessential wine festival, GrapeFest® - A Texas Wine Experience, the largest wine festival in the Southwest.
“This year has been challenging for businesses and individuals across the nation, especially here in Grapevine,” said Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director, Paul W. McCallum. “Having said that, we are incredibly fortunate and excited to welcome two new wineries, Bull Lion Winery and Landon Winery, to the established and acclaimed Grapevine Urban Wine Trail.”
Bull Lion Winery began in 2010 with a new adventure by planting a vineyard and establishing a winery even though their families in Italy have been growing wine grapes for over 100 years. This family tradition continues today near Chalk Mountain, Texas, chosen for its high mineral soils. The hilltop soils are very dense with a mix of limestone, fossil shale and black soil. The native minerals bring out the best in each vine resulting in quality grown Texas grapes. Grape varieties include Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Tempranillo and Pinot Grigio. These varieties are typically grown on the mountainsides of Italy, Spain and Argentina, all of which mirror the terroir of the Central Texas Hill Country.
Bull Lion Winery produces more than 17 different red and white varietals and their Old World-style winemaking tradition can be tasted in every glass of fine wine. Bull Lion’s wines have won at GrapeFest’s People’s Choice Wine Tasting Classic year after year, including their Old World Chianti blend “Texianti,” a three-time gold medal winner; Montepulciano, a two-time gold medal winner; and Malbec, which won gold medal in 2019 and won a silver medal at the 2018 Lone Star International Wine Competition. Their wines continue to win top awards in state and national competitions.
Beginning in November 2020, Bull Lion Winery will be co-located with apparel retailer, Nomad, who specializes in local designs and unique outdoor products. This space will be located in the former Statum Gulf service station at 530 S. Main St. Visitors will have the opportunity to relax underneath a 1930s porte-cochère as they sip on award-winning wines, enjoy homemade salamis, local cheeses, homemade Italian desserts and other fine specialty foods.
Landon Winery’s winemaking experience dates back to 1989 as Vintner Bob Landon tried his hand at making wine in the basement of their home in Kansas City, Missouri. He has successfully graduated from basement winemaking to being one of the leading wineries in Texas. Their use of American and French oak barrels, stainless steel tanks and a state-of-the-art bottling line are examples of the ingenuity and complexity of the Landon Winery winemaking process. They source their grapes from vineyards in the Texas High Plains west of Lubbock and beyond.
Landon Winery pours more than 25 wine offerings that include crisp Pinot Grigio, buttery Chardonnay, luscious Merlot and velvety chocolate dessert wine. Landon Winery has earned hundreds of medals and international recognitions for their wines. Most recently, they were recognized with several best-in-category awards at the 2019 Lone Star International Wine Competition. Landon Winery will be located at 415 S. Main St.
