Ohlook Performing Arts will present its award winning production of Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead on Monday, May 14, at 8:00pm before heading to Canada to compete in the Liverpool International Theatre Festival, May 16 - 20. Ohlook competed in the American Association of Community Theater's National competition (AACTFest11) last June with this same production winning Best Production, Best Ensemble, Best Director, Best Sound Design, Best Supporting Actor and Best Featured Actor. At this festival they will be competing against theatre companies from Poland, Germany, Georgia, Wales, Slovakia, Egypt, Brazil, South Africa and Canada. Ohlook is the only company representing the USA.
Bert V. Royal's play tells the story of the Charlie Brown gang all grown up and in high school. When CB's dog dies from rabies, CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife. His best friend is too burnt out to provide any coherent speculation; his sister has gone goth; his ex-girlfriend has recently been institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to give him any sort of solace. But a chance meeting with an artistic kid, the target of this group's bullying, offers CB a peace of mind and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. The show is rated R for language and mature subject matter.
The Dog Sees God cast is comprised of all local actors including Evan Spreen (CB), Matt Purivs (Van), Jake McCready (Matt), John Davenport (Beethoven), Lacey Jane Dangerstone (CB's Sister), Taylor Wallis (Marcie), Kristin Payne (Patty), Lorena Phillips (Van's Sister) and Jill Blalock Lord (Director).
Monday's performance will be a pay what you can (with a $5 minimum) and all funds will go towards their travel fund. For more information or to make a reservation or donation please visit www.ohlookperform.com or call 817-421-2825. The performance will take place at their new location, 1631 W. Northwest Hwy, Grapevine, TX.
