"This year's Main Street Days was a wonderful celebration in the heart of Historic Downtown Grapevine," said festival chairs Mike and Debi Meek. "Throughout the weekend, large crowds enjoyed all of the events including the Craft Brew Experience, music and fun activities for the entire family."
On Friday, May 16, the festival opened with a special Cask Keg Tapping, featuring a 200 year old Cask Keg brought to the United States from Germany by Franconia Brewery (McKinney, TX) owner and brewmaster Dennis Wehrmann. Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate, city dignitaries and special guests participated in the grand opening celebration.
Guests also danced in the streets during live performances on stages throughout the festival from artists such as "The Voice's" Brandon Chase, Little Texas, Brave Combo, The Grapevine Opry Show and Starship featuring Mickey Thomas.
Excitement was building all three days of the festival during the 1st Annual DFW ICON competition. Winners were selected Sunday in different age categories and included Grand Champion Chloe Moore, 14, Prosper, TX; McKinley Ream, 11, Sunnyvale, TX; Lauren Gehle, 15, Burleson, TX; Trevor Douglas, 16, Fort Worth, TX and Tori Sloan, 20, Grapevine, TX.
Masters of the grill also competed at the Grillin' Competition. Sessions were held throughout the weekend and winners of each session participated in the Championship Session on Sunday. The winner of the Championship Session was Bodie Nowak of Lubbock, TX. Second place was awarded to Karrie Rasor of Abilene, TX and Karrie's brother, Robert Rasor, also of Abilene, TX, placed fourth. Third place was awarded to Blake Gentry of Bedford, TX and fifth place was awarded to Dean Olson of Grapevine, TX.
Thousands of children discovered fun and exciting entertainment throughout the festival. Entering through a 22' inflatable shark, guests at the KidCave experienced the LEGOLAND® Discovery Center's LEGO® brick build area and Junior Builder competition, SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium's touch pool, interactive games and entertainment. The festival also marked the return of the Palio's Pizza Toss Academy, where more than 1,000 children ages 10 and under learned to toss dough like a pizza pro.
In the two weeks prior to Main Street Days, a series of pre-festival craft brew and culinary pairing events were held at legendary establishments across Grapevine including Chill, Gaylord Texan Resort, Flips Patio Grill and Tolbert's. These special events featured breweries and brewmasters from across the country showcasing a variety of craft brews matched perfectly with delicious culinary creations from the Grapevine establishments.
The 30th Annual Main Street Days had an attendance of 148,260. The 31st Annual Main Street Days will be held May 15, 16 and 17, 2015.
