Industrial Development in Maharashtra: Latest Updates

The Maharashtra state government is tirelessly working to connect major nodal regions of Maharashtra, including Mumbai. It is creating a special proposition for the industry of transportation that has been amended and revised for the coming 20 years.

The Mumbai-Trans Harbour Link project, or MTHL, is one of the major ongoing infrastructure projects. It is anticipated to be finished before the year 2023 ends and will help enhance connectivity even more, according to S V R Srinivas. He is the Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

It takes more than 45 minutes to travel from locations like Malabar Hill to Bandra-Kurla Complex or BKC. However, once the MTHL project or the Mumbai-Trans Harbour Link project is fully operational, it will take about 20 minutes to commute to farther locations like Navi Mumbai. The districts covered under the MTHL projects are anticipated to experience a quite similar boom due to connectivity through the project, according to Srinivas, commissioner of MMRDA.

Speaking at a conference held in Maharashtra organised by the Neral-Karjat branch of the National Real Estate Development Council or NAREDCO, the commissioner further claimed that improving connectivity is crucial for the affordable housing ecosystem in Mumbai. The outlying areas of the project, such as Neral-Karjat, will experience explosive growth once the various ongoing infrastructure projects finish and are operational in full swing.

Gautam Thacker, President of NAREDCO Neral-Karjat, said during the conference that there are a lot of issues in the city due to limited space. Hence it has become crucial to develop another city that will not only meet the space utilisation criteria but also offer affordable housing alternatives and provide numerous facilities to the people of Maharashtra.

According to him, the Neral-Karjat-Panvel belt, which includes major industrial zones like MIDCs, the expansion of JNPT, JNPT SEZ, and the new airport, offers residents a range of social amenities. Additionally, it also offers job opportunities in the knowledge-based research institutions and the sector of IT & ITES. All issues will be addressed, be it infrastructure-related, civic, or any kind of basic and general issues; it will be looked into and handled with assistance from various agencies and the government to ensure this trend continues.

The President of NAREDCO India, Rajan Bandelkar, assured that the government is doing their best by investing in improving infrastructure in the Neral-Karjat belt, which in turn is significantly contributing to the region’s commercial growth and residential development. It is also boosting overall real estate growth and elevating by improving the quality of life for its residents.

In the regions that previously lacked infrastructure and connectivity, such as the areas of Karjat and Neral, the government is taking special measures and focusing more on such regions’ realty. The supply of homes in Karjat and Neral has also increased by 19% and 21%, respectively. The government, however, is currently building several massive infrastructure projects that will aid homebuyers and boost the real estate industry.

Apart from the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, other projects like the Navi Mumbai International Airport, the Panvel-Karjat line that will enhance the local railway connectivity, and a national highway that runs through Matheran. In addition to these projects, construction is underway for tourism development and a future railway yard. There will be new upcoming universities, medical schools, and business schools. Another big project is a 4.7-kilometre-long Neral Matheran Ropeway, which is anticipated to be among the longest ropeways in the area.
